For the seventh year, the North Texas Tech Prep Consortium coordinated the Summer Teacher Internship Program. Teachers from math, science, English, vocational subjects, technology, and other areas are participating in the program to gain workplace-related experiences that they can turn into curricula for their students. The main focus is for businesses to provide job-relevant experiences. Teachers can use real world examples and problems provided by business, in their curricula to show students the connection between school and work. Businesses show teachers how math, science, English, communication skills, work ethics and social skills are used in the workplace.
The goal of the summer teacher educator internship is to provide educators with an opportunity to learn more about the workplace and better prepare students for the workforce. Teachers of math, science, English, technical subjects and other areas participate in the program to gain workplace related experiences that they can turn into curricula for their students. The summer teacher internship gives educators a chance to develop long lasting relationships with local employers
Teachers spend at least three days in the workplace, Monday through Wednesday, rotating to different departments. After their three-day experience with the business, the teacher spends two days writing curricula for their students to integrate what he/she learned about working in the real world. Teams of three to four teachers from a school, consisting of combinations of subject areas, are encouraged. Individual teachers are accepted. Teams will go to different workplaces or all together, but combine on day four and five to write curricula which integrate the skills learned. Each teacher is required to write five lesson plans.
